A landlocked state, Nepal has faced rapid population growth and the haphazard pace which has affected the infrastructure and natural habitat. With local government bodies striving to provide adequate services to the population, Nepal’s urban bodies face urbanization challenges with need for immediate solutions. With GTZ funding, UMC facilitated a 10-day tailor-made study tour for a four-member delegation from Nepal. The delegation gained practical knowledge in economic and social development, issues of squatter settlements, micro financing projects for urban poor, access to basic infrastructure services and rural governance and issues relating to Panchayati Raj.
