Sumi Roy is a seasoned development professional with a Master’s degree in Sociology and a Postgraduate degree in Mass Communication and Public Relations. With over a decade of experience, she specialises in WASH (Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene), FSSM (Faecal Sludge and Septage Management), Disaster Risk Reduction, Public Health, Communication, and Programme Implementation.
Throughout her career, Sumi has collaborated with leading organisations such as UNICEF, Swachh Bharat Mission Grameen, the Public Health Engineering Department, and CRS India, contributing to impactful projects aimed at improving community well-being. As the State Project Coordinator and Team Lead at the Women Development Centre (WDC), she spearheaded initiatives that enhanced the lives of women in rural Himachal Pradesh.
Her expertise includes leadership, behaviour change communication, social mobilisation, capacity building, and IEC (Information, Education, and Communication), with a proven track record in programme implementation and multi-stakeholder collaboration. Sumi’s contributions to social service have been widely recognised, earning her the National Youth Award from the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Government of India. She has also proudly represented India at the World Youth Festival in Russia on two occasions.
Beyond her professional work, Sumi is passionate about teaching and is an avid traveller, always eager to explore new horizons and perspectives.
