UMC/IMCA along with United States Agency for International Development (USAID) organized a study tour to India for an Ethiopian delegation to study urban growth. Once among the poorest nations of the world, ravaged by civil war and famine, Ethiopia is now one of the fastest growing economies of the world with rapidly developing cities. Large scale migration of rural population to urban areas and haphazard rapid urban growth have resulted in urbanization issues like shortage of housing, lack of water, electricity, sewerage issues and a weak health sector. The aim of the study tour was to acquaint the delegation with best practices in urban local bodies in India, with special emphasis on public private partnership initiatives.
